چکیده

Red palm weevil, Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) is a key pest of palm-based ecosystem. Globally R. reported from 50 countries infecting 40 species. are attracted to wounded, damaged, dying palms or apparently healthy palms. gains entry into when female weevils drawn tissue volatiles lay eggs. The females use the rostrum bore form hole for oviposition. Because its cryptic feeding habit management difficult leading death laboratory study was conducted with aim assess ovipositional preference injured and aged coconut petiole (var. Benaulim) red weevil Curculionidae). Results reveals that freshly most preferred egg laying by (mean lay: 4.11) statistically at par one two-day old, petiole, indicating injuries wounds on between 0-2 days after damage emit attractive adults laying. It concludes part should be treated effective insecticides immediately prevent further losses.

Development of red date palm weevil Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Olivier) was evaluated on 4 popular cultivars of date palm, viz., ‘Khalas’, ‘Sukkary’, ‘Khasab’, and ‘Sillaj’ for 2 consecutive generations. The weevils reared on ‘Sukkary’ showed significantly better growth expressed in most parameters such as length, width and weight at larval, pupal and adult stages. Significantly greater numbers...

Digestive proteases during development of larvae of red palm weevil, Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Olivier, 1790) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae).

The evolution of digestive proteases during larval development of Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Olivier, 1790) has been studied. A progressive increase of protease activity has been found. The optimum pH for proteolytic activity against azocasein was determined. Caseinograms revealed an active complex of alkaline proteases from the early stages of the development. From the apparent molecular masse...
